Overview

Places for People, one of the UK's leading housing providers and recognized among the UK's Top 50 Best Workplaces, is seeking a qualified Joiner to join their team in Portsmouth. This permanent position offers a company van and the chance to make a meaningful difference by working locally within your community, maintaining and improving customers' homes and neighborhoods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performing joinery installation and repair tasks inside residential properties
  • Handling various jobs including door fitting, kitchen work, flooring, and internal fixtures
  • Working according to specifications, reports, and quality standards
  • Ensuring protection of customers’ homes and belongings during work
  • Coordinating with supervisors, schedulers, and broader teams to meet deadlines
  • Documenting work activities and completing necessary paperwork
  • Supporting apprentices and contributing to team performance and key performance indicators

Typical Workday

  • Following a structured schedule focused on repairs and maintenance assignments
  • Using the company van to travel between jobs
  • Working independently or alongside other tradespeople
  • Engaging directly with customers while working in their homes
  • Maintaining high standards of efficiency, quality, and compliance

Work Environment

  • Jobs performed in both occupied and vacant residential properties
  • Operating within a variety of domestic housing within your local PO postcode area
  • Interacting with vulnerable customers requiring sensitivity and care

Essential Requirements

  • NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent in Joinery
  • Previous experience as a Joiner, preferably within social housing or residential contexts
  • Valid full UK driving license
  • Residence within the PO postcode area to support localized working

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in multiple related trades
  • Basic IT proficiency or willingness to adopt digital systems
