About the Role
The Waimakariri District Council is looking to hire a full-time IT Service Desk Engineer based at their service centre in Rangiora, Canterbury, New Zealand. This role is ideal for a proactive individual passionate about technology and digital transformation, who enjoys delivering excellent customer service and problem-solving support.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Serve as a trusted point of contact for service desk operations, assisting users with IT inquiries and issues.
- Provide hardware support for desktop computers, laptops, and Android mobile devices.
- Offer remote assistance to staff and council members as required.
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 products.
- Utilize fundamental networking knowledge to troubleshoot connectivity and related problems effectively.
- Analyze and triage user-reported issues to facilitate timely resolutions.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of one year experience providing IT service desk or helpdesk support.
- Strong familiarity with supporting hardware including desktops, laptops, and Android devices.
- Proficient understanding of Windows 11 operating system and Microsoft 365 suite.
- Basic knowledge of networking principles and troubleshooting techniques.
- Capability to provide support remotely.
- Excellent analytical skills for problem identification and resolution prioritization.
- Outstanding communication abilities, both written and verbal.
- A desire to continually learn and adapt with a positive, innovative mindset.
- Ability to work autonomously while actively contributing to and fostering team collaboration and culture.

The role is situated in the Waimakariri District, approximately 20 minutes north of Christchurch, offering a blend of small town and rural living with access to outdoor recreation and proximity to city amenities. The Council serves a growing community of nearly 60,000 residents and offers a professional and solution-focused work environment.
