The Engineering team in Corvallis, Oregon is seeking a skilled Technical Writer who can turn complex engineering work into clear, practical guidance for users. Job Summary

This position is responsible for developing, updating, and improving documentation for OptiTrack products as well as internal business and engineering processes. The role partners closely with engineering, support, QA, product management, and marketing to create documentation that supports customers, improves internal knowledge sharing, and strengthens operational consistency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the main owner for product documentation and technical writing deliverables.
  • Develop and refine customer materials such as user manuals, knowledge base content, release notes, installation instructions, troubleshooting help, SDK/API references, and developer-focused documentation.
  • Build and maintain internal reference material, including support workflows, engineering process guides, training resources, and organizational knowledge assets.
  • Work with engineering and support teams to document new products, features, workflows, and recommended practices.
  • Collect input from subject matter experts and convert specialized technical information into clear, concise written content.
  • Manage documentation systems and processes using platforms such as GitBook, Confluence, and Jira.
  • Review existing content regularly and revise it to keep it current, accurate, and aligned with product updates.
  • Make sure documentation follows internal security expectations and data privacy standards.
  • Help define and improve documentation standards, style guidelines, and knowledge management methods.
  • Create visual support materials such as screenshots, diagrams, tutorials, and instructional videos when needed.
  • Be prepared for occasional travel as required by the role.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in technical writing or a closely related field.
  • Excellent written communication ability and a strong eye for detail.
  • Background in documenting software, hardware, or other technically complex products.
  • Comfort working alongside engineers and technical subject matter experts.
  • Hands-on experience with documentation and collaboration tools such as GitBook, Confluence, and Jira.
  • Working knowledge of Git and other version control workflows.

  • Preferred background includes familiarity with OptiTrack products and motion capture workflows.
  • Additional advantage for candidates with experience in motion capture, animation, virtual production, robotics, biomechanics, or related industries.

  • Experience producing video tutorials, training content, or other multimedia documentation is a plus.
