About the role
Affirm is building a more transparent credit experience, designed to give customers the freedom to buy now and pay later without hidden charges or compounding interest. The company is seeking a seasoned and driven Staff Technical Program Manager to lead high-visibility initiatives that improve how customer and merchant products are delivered. As the product suite and platform become more complex, the program management function needs to evolve with it. In this role, you will work closely with Product and Engineering to shape the processes and frameworks used to build reliable software, while also assessing emerging technologies for possible product and feature opportunities.
What you'll do
- Lead challenging, cross-functional, and highly visible technical programs that support the team’s mission to expand consumer products and platform capabilities.
- Work with engineering and non-technical partners throughout the full program lifecycle, including requirement planning, risk identification, schedule management, and clear communication with stakeholders across the business.
- Develop a strong understanding of technical design at the architecture level, propose alternative approaches, ask focused questions that help the team prioritize well, and deepen both domain and technical expertise.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering on requirements, schedules, risks, and communication across teams.
- Monitor progress, address dependencies, assess risks, report status to senior leadership and program stakeholders, and help program teams stay aligned and on track to reach goals.
What we're looking for
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or similar practical experience.
- At least 8 years of experience managing technical programs.
- Strong motivation to improve consumer finance.
- A structured and strategic style for working with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Attention to detail paired with the ability to deliver on schedule.
- Experience driving strategic initiatives in a remote-friendly environment.
- Ability to mentor teammates and help them grow.
- History of leading complex, large-scale technology applications and distributed backend systems.
- Strong stakeholder management skills across Engineering, Product, Design, Analytics, and other functions.
- Experience in FinTech, Payments, or Commerce is an advantage.
Compensation and benefits
This role sits at Pay Grade N and Equity Grade 5. New hires typically start at the lower end of the salary band. Compensation is designed to be transparent and is influenced by factors such as location, experience, and role-specific skills. Base salary is one part of the total package, which may also include equity, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech-related spending, and benefits such as fully subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
The Canada base pay range for this position is CAD 153,000 to CAD 213,000 per year.
Additional information
This role is for an open position already approved by the company. Affirm operates as a remote-first organization, and most positions can be performed from nearly anywhere in the country of employment. Some proximal roles may still require occasional visits to an assigned office, while a smaller number of roles remain office-based because of the nature of the work.
Benefits
- Full premium coverage for health insurance at all coverage levels for employees and their dependents.
- Flexible spending wallets with generous allocations for technology, food, lifestyle needs, and family-forming expenses.
- Competitive vacation and holiday leave to support rest and recovery.
- Employee stock purchase plan with the opportunity to buy company shares at a discount.
Accessibility and legal information
The company is committed to providing an inclusive interview process and can arrange reasonable accommodations for candidates who need individualized support during hiring.
For certain U.S. jobs that may be performed in Los Angeles or San Francisco, qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered in line with applicable fair chance hiring laws.
