Site Engineer

Role overview

A well-established construction firm with national reach is looking for a Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer to strengthen its project team in Letterkenny, County Donegal. Key responsibilities

The role involves a mix of surveying, coordination, safety oversight, and project documentation, including:

• Marking out site boundaries, structures, and infrastructure positions accurately.
• Carrying out levelling and surveying work using GPS and total station equipment.
• Setting out buildings and controlling dimensions to ensure accuracy on site.
• Handling site services setting out, such as drainage, water mains, and electrical/communications systems.
• Supporting roads and car park setting out, including reduced level and fill operations.
• Assisting with hard and soft landscaping set out.
• Monitoring health and safety compliance on site and helping maintain safe working practices.
• Identifying and reporting hazards while keeping safety records up to date.
• Working closely with contractors, operators, engineers, and other stakeholders.
• Sharing progress updates and collaborating to resolve technical issues.
• Maintaining a site logbook and ensuring activity records are kept accurately.
• Tracking deadlines and communicating progress against programme requirements.
• Preparing as-built drawings and records in CAD and PDF formats.

Required experience and capabilities

The ideal person will have a strong working knowledge of drawings, specifications, and construction methods, along with hands-on experience in infrastructure, building works, and site services such as drainage, roads, and utilities. Good CAD ability is important for producing and checking as-built information.

A successful candidate should be practical, adaptable to changing site conditions, proactive in spotting risks, and comfortable working with multiple stakeholders. A strong commitment to health and safety is also essential.
