Impact of the role

The sampler is responsible for collecting reliable field samples and supporting ore control, moisture, and density sampling activities. These samples are used as the foundation for OC dig polygon generation used in mining operations.

Key duties

• Check blast pattern layouts and confirm they are ready for sampling work.
• Perform routine sampling tasks such as blast hole, trench, and grab sampling.
• Follow standard operating procedures to ensure sample quality remains high.
• Position and label pegs accurately so survey teams can easily locate after-drill pickups.
• Collect representative samples within the required timing and specification.
• Split samples on site to the correct size for delivery to the assay laboratory, including drill core and RC samples.
• Log samples received from drilling contractors at both the drill site and assay laboratory.
• Label sample bags accurately to support correct ore block grade estimation.
• Move infill drillhole core from the field to the core shed.
• Support core marking, cutting, orientation, and photography activities.
• Seek quality review and guidance from the Geological Technician and Grade Control Geologist.
• Assist with operating light vehicles for sampling tasks and use the Ditch Witch machine to cut sample trenches.
• Help the Geology Technician sort and submit samples at the laboratory.
• Work in line with Newmont’s compliance, quality, health, and safety standards.
• Ensure samples are placed in the correct bags and labeled properly.
• Take responsibility for personal safety and the safety of colleagues during field and operational work.
• Support safe work practices and follow Newmont health and safety principles at all times.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants should have a Junior High School qualification and a valid driving license.

Experience in a mining setting as a sampler for 1 to 5 years is required. Background in open pit environments, basic geology tasks, drilling, or sampling work is an advantage.

Strong written and spoken communication, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage time effectively are important. The role also calls for manual dexterity, mechanical aptitude, accuracy, literacy, numeracy, reliability, independence, a methodical approach, self-checking habits, and a strong safety mindset.
