About the role

As a Relief Dispenser, you’ll move between stores within an assigned local area and play an important part in the pharmacy team. You’ll work alongside the pharmacist and other healthcare colleagues to help deliver pharmacy and healthcare services safely and efficiently.

In the store’s healthcare area, you’ll build trusted relationships with patients by understanding their needs and offering helpful support. Your day-to-day work may include welcoming customers, preparing prescriptions, ensuring medicines are supplied safely, and giving guidance based on your healthcare knowledge so patients can make informed choices about their health and wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense prescriptions safely, including ordering medicines, labelling items, endorsing prescriptions, and handing them over to patients.
  • Partner with in-store healthcare colleagues to support the delivery and coordination of pharmacy services.
  • Offer practical medicine-related advice to patients and escalate queries to the pharmacist when needed.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to ensure prescription dispensing remains legal, accurate, and safe.
  • Stay current with new in-store processes and innovations and apply them correctly in daily work.
  • Help patients manage repeat prescriptions effectively, supporting good adherence and reducing medicine waste.
  • Communicate clearly with store teams to maintain continuity of patient care.

Training and development

You’ll work with evolving in-store technologies and new systems that are designed to improve dispensing processes, enhance patient safety, and free up more time to spend with patients. You’ll also receive regular updates and training to grow your healthcare knowledge, along with development pathways that may lead to Pharmacy Technician training or progression into the store leadership team.

What you’ll need

  • Completion of the Pharmacy Advisor qualification at NVQ2 level, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Full flexibility and the ability to travel across the defined area.
  • A current and valid right to work in the UK.
  • This role is not eligible for Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship.

Desirable experience

  • Previous experience in a community pharmacy setting.

Pay

The hourly pay for this position is £13.92, rising to as much as £16.64 in selected London locations.
