Role Overview

Ploy is looking for a Recruiter to help build the team that will build the company. This is a foundational hiring role at an early-stage startup, where the earliest hires help shape product direction, culture, pace, ambition, and the standards for future team members.

You will lead searches for strong candidates across engineering, design engineering, growth, sales, marketing, customer-facing roles, and other functions as the company scales. The role is about more than filling vacancies: it combines talent acquisition, storytelling, operations, and company-building to create a recruiting process that attracts standout candidates and helps them understand the opportunity clearly.

Rather than simply handling inbound applications or scheduling interviews, you will help design the talent engine from the ground up. That includes sourcing strategy, candidate communication, interview design, scorecards, pipeline management, employer brand, and hiring rituals that support fast decisions without sacrificing quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run full-cycle hiring processes from intake and sourcing through outreach, screening, interviews, offer support, and closing candidates.
  • Build sourcing plans and actively engage strong candidates across engineering, design, growth, go-to-market, operations, and other priority areas.
  • Craft candidate messaging that communicates Ploy’s product, mission, team, and opportunity in a compelling way.
  • Create and maintain outbound pipelines for difficult-to-fill roles, especially early-stage and technical positions.
  • Partner with hiring managers to design structured, efficient interview loops, scorecards, and decision-making criteria.
  • Ensure every candidate interaction feels prompt, respectful, thoughtful, and aligned with a high-quality hiring experience.
  • Work with founders and team leads to define role requirements, calibrate on talent, and keep hiring searches moving.
  • Maintain organized recruiting systems, monitor pipeline health, manage follow-ups, and improve visibility across open roles.
  • Contribute to employer branding through job descriptions, outbound outreach, social presence, and talent-community engagement.
  • Track market trends and identify where strong builders, operators, engineers, designers, and GTM talent spend their time.
  • Help sustain a high hiring bar while supporting a team culture rooted in ownership, speed, taste, and care.

Qualifications

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in recruiting, sourcing, talent, people operations, executive search, agency recruiting, or a similarly high-ownership talent function.
  • Background hiring for fast-paced startups, technical teams, product organizations, GTM teams, or other high-growth environments.
  • Strong sourcing ability and comfort finding outstanding candidates outside of obvious inbound channels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong judgment when evaluating talent, motivation, cultural alignment, and candidate quality.
  • Genuine interest in startups, AI, engineering, design, growth, GTM, and the future of software.
  • Comfort working closely with founders and hiring managers in a fast-moving early-stage setting.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail across candidates, follow-ups, pipelines, and process management.
  • A proactive, action-oriented mindset that does not wait for perfect instructions before starting the search.
  • High empathy and strong instincts for creating a positive candidate experience.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to turn unclear hiring needs into structured recruiting plans.
