Role Summary

The Materials Planner will support plant materials operations with limited supervision, overseeing raw material planning, inventory control, and coordination across suppliers and internal departments. The position is responsible for helping maintain efficient stock levels, supporting production flow, and preventing material shortages that could disrupt operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Review customer requirements and submit material needs to suppliers accurately and on time.
• Track suppliers, shipments, document processing, material arrivals, and material receipts.
• Work toward inventory and cost targets such as inventory level, excess and obsolete stock, and zero expedited cost.
• Maintain and monitor transactions in SAP and SAP/AS400, including capturing, invoicing, and general material movement.
• Make sure maintenance materials reach the plant in time so production lines do not stop.
• Track inbound transportation status, including load utilization, frequency, and other shipment details.
• Manage production material inventory so stock stays at the right level and unnecessary expediting is avoided.
• Coordinate supplier deliveries to ensure a stable and efficient supply chain.
• Compare monthly accruals against supplier shipments and resolve variances.
• Track engineering changes and breakpoints while coordinating with Engineering, Sales, Quality, Manufacturing, Suppliers, and Systems teams.
• Work with the Cycle Counting Supervisor to confirm that physical inventory matches system records.
• Oversee supplier performance for on-time shipping, ASN compliance, expediting, and related operational expectations.
• Review the Plant/Logistics PFEP regularly and correct information with the responsible PFEP owners.
• Partner with Accounts Payable and Finance to ensure there are no exceptions.
• Create supplier quality notifications for logistical issues identified by the materials team.
• Follow up on virtual operations with Finance, AP, and Customs.
• Support the quality and environmental management system within the scope of the job.
• Take part in Kaizen and savings projects that improve supply chain efficiency.
• Help standardize 5S practices across work areas to support a safe and healthy workplace.

Qualifications

• An associate degree in a related discipline, or five years of experience in maintenance plus supervisory experience in a foam manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience with polyurethane foam processing.
• Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements.
• Familiarity with manufacturing methods and process improvement programs.
• Understanding of Quality Management Systems, including ISO14001 and TS16949.
• Knowledge of Right-to-Know and Hazard Communication requirements.
• Awareness of Lock Out/Tag Out procedures, as applicable to affected or authorized personnel.
• Understanding of TDI hazards.
