Maintenance Cleaner

Overview

GFL Environmental is hiring a Maintenance Cleaner for its Materials Recovery Facility in Calgary, Alberta, serving Western Canada. This role supports the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility and works alongside mechanics, shop staff, the Plant Manager, and supervisors to help keep operations running efficiently.

This is a night-shift position with working hours from 9:00 pm to 5:30 am.

What the role involves

The position focuses on supporting daily shop and plant activities, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and assisting with maintenance tasks that help reduce downtime and support optimal system performance.

• Support mechanics and shop personnel with day-to-day tasks in the bays or as assigned.
• Work with the Plant Manager to help maintain and repair different parts of the operating system at the EWSWA MRF.
• Keep the facility, surrounding work areas, and outdoor zones clean and orderly.
• Carry out cleaning duties around bins, the compactor, screens, shafts, and specialty equipment.
• Assist with preventative maintenance, inspections, and mechanical repairs as needed.
• Track inventory and monitor critical spare parts.
• Reprioritize tasks when needed to meet deadlines and reduce the risk of equipment downtime.
• Handle emergency maintenance needs and complete system work based on priority.
• Take on other tasks assigned by management.

Requirements

Applicants should be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. A valid driver’s licence is required, and the ideal candidate should be mechanically inclined.
