Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence Scientist - Cardiovascular MRI

About the role

The Cardiovascular MR Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School is looking for a Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Scientist to contribute to the development of next-generation cardiovascular MRI technologies. This role sits within a multidisciplinary environment that brings together imaging researchers, AI specialists, and cardiologists.

You will lead technical work on imaging-focused projects, define project plans, build and test new ML/AI methods, and help bring those methods into real clinical MRI systems in collaboration with Siemens Healthineers. The appointment is for two years and may be renewed depending on strong performance and the availability of funding.

The compensation range for this position is $60,000 to $125,000 per year, with the final offer based on experience and educational background.

Responsibilities

• Partner with team members to design and develop AI and machine learning solutions that improve cardiovascular imaging, especially across MRI acquisition, reconstruction, and analysis.
• Create new ML/AI approaches to help predict adverse outcomes in cardiovascular patients using multi-modal data, including cardiac imaging.
• Work with Siemens Healthineers to deploy and integrate AI/ML models into clinical MRI scanner environments.
• Offer technical support and guidance to other lab members working on problems that combine engineering, radiology, and cardiology.
• Carry out research using advanced deep learning methods in cardiac imaging and publish original findings.

Requirements

• Master’s or Ph.D. degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or biomedical engineering with an AI focus.
• Three to five years of relevant experience in academia or industry.
• Strong programming ability in C++ and Python, including the capacity to quickly build prototypes in Python.
• Practical experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow/Keras.
• Evidence of completed software projects, such as a GitHub portfolio.
• Knowledge of modern ML/AI approaches such as transformers and diffusion models.
• Proven research record in AI/ML, including at least one first-author peer-reviewed paper.
• Solid hands-on background in computer vision, signal processing, and medical imaging.
• Familiarity with medical imaging tools and formats such as PyDicom, ITK, OpenCV, and HDF5 is advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
