Role overview

Mitti Agricarbon India is hiring a hands-on HR Generalist to strengthen its growing people function. This position combines recruitment depth with broader HR responsibilities and is suited to someone who enjoys working in a compact team with a high degree of ownership. The role is approximately 60% talent acquisition and 40% HR operations, and it involves regular travel and field interaction across South India.

Mitti Labs operates where climate action, agriculture, and technology meet. The company focuses on improving the rice sector by helping smallholder farmers adopt sustainable farming methods. Its work aims to reduce climate impact, improve water and food security, and enhance farmer livelihoods. The organization measures outcomes such as methane reduction, lower water use, and yield improvement, while also enabling scale through high-quality carbon credits, climate-smart inputs, and market-linkage support. Its dMRV system combines ground-level science and satellite data to improve transparency and strengthen operational efficiency. Since launching in May 2023, the team has deployed its dMRV product across 7 major rice-growing states, worked on carbon projects covering 40,000 hectares, and built partnerships with organizations such as Syngenta Foundation, Dr. Reddy’s Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, and Ebro Foods. Backed by investors including Lightspeed, Voyager, and other angels, the company now has a team of 60+ people across data science, product/engineering, operations, and commercial functions.

Talent acquisition responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle hiring for diverse positions such as ground operations, field extension, science, quality, farmer operations, program management, and project management.
• Identify and engage difficult-to-source candidates from agriculture, rural development, and sustainability backgrounds.
• Coordinate campus recruitment efforts across agriculture colleges and universities in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Odisha.
• Handle job listings, applicant tracking, resume screening, interview coordination, and offer issuance.
• Create and maintain a strong candidate pipeline for ongoing and business-critical hiring needs.
• Visit colleges, hiring events, and field locations to support recruitment drives.

HR operations responsibilities

• Oversee employee records, joining formalities, onboarding, and maintenance of HRMS data.
• Prepare payroll-related inputs, including attendance, leave, and reimbursement details.
• Help draft, update, and maintain HR policies, SOPs, and appointment/employment letters.
• Respond to employee questions, manage grievances, and support compliance-related documentation.

Candidate profile

• 2 to 4 years of HR experience, with a strong focus on recruitment.
• Previous work experience in AgriTech, rural development, NGOs, or sustainability-focused organizations is required.
• Fluency in at least one South Indian language, along with Hindi; Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil are especially relevant.
• Comfort with frequent travel to tier 2, tier 3, and tier 4 locations as well as field sites across South India.
• Strong people skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both village-level candidates and senior leaders.
• Practical experience using sourcing tools and recruitment platforms for talent search and hiring coordination.

Additional information

This is a high-ownership, field-oriented role in a lean team. The position requires a balance of recruitment execution and day-to-day HR support, along with substantial interaction with candidates and internal stakeholders in different geographies.

Compensation

The offered pay range is INR 4,00,000 to 5,00,000 per year.
