About Triskele Labs
Triskele Labs is a premier cybersecurity services provider dedicated to partnering with clients to deliver impactful cyber solutions. We foster an environment that empowers our team members, enabling them to excel in their roles and contribute to both team and client success. With consistent year-on-year growth, we are seeking a proactive Financial Controller to fully own and manage the finance function.
About the Role
Our finance department is undergoing significant investment and transformation. As the Financial Controller, you will be central to this evolution, taking ownership of the month-end close process, managing the compliance calendar, overseeing audits, and leading the transactional team. A key aspect of this role involves establishing documented processes and robust controls essential for a growing business.
You will report directly to the CFO and collaborate closely with an engaged executive team. While the CFO focuses on strategy, pricing, and executive reporting architecture, your responsibility will be to ensure the integrity and trustworthiness of the underlying financial data.
This is a hands-on position with a strong commercial focus. We are looking for an individual who is not just a technical accountant but someone who finds analyzing margins, cost-to-serve, and working capital dynamics engaging and desires a strategic seat at the table.
AI and LLM Literacy Requirement
A non-negotiable requirement for this role is proficiency in AI and LLM tools. Triskele Labs is heavily integrating AI into its operations. Reporting is generated using AI agents, analysis is conducted through live data artifacts instead of static spreadsheets, and LLM tools are integral to daily workflows. Candidates must be comfortable and productive using these tools from day one. If you have no prior experience using tools like Claude or ChatGPT for report generation, data analysis, or workflow automation, this role may not be suitable.
Finance Team Structure
The finance team currently consists of the CFO, this Financial Controller role, and a transactional team handling accounts payable, with accounts receivable and billing functions to be added. As the senior operational finance role, you will supervise the transactional team. This role is designed to grow with the company, potentially including future hires reporting to you.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, accruals, journals, and reviews, ensuring a documented and repeatable cadence.
- Oversee revenue recognition for both recurring Managed Detection and Response (MDR) contracts and project-based Professional Services engagements.
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with all statutory obligations, including BAS, superannuation, payroll tax, FBT, and ATO requirements.
- Lead the auditor relationship and prepare a comprehensive audit-ready year-end file.
- Review and process payroll through Xero Payroll, including finalisation of Single Touch Payroll (STP).
- Direct, review, and develop the performance of the transactional team.
- Manage working capital by overseeing the collections process, monitoring aged receivables, and maintaining strict supplier payment discipline.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including a close checklist, controls register, and process notes in the knowledge base to ensure operational continuity.
- Collaborate with the CFO to produce the monthly executive reporting suite using AI agents, creating live artifacts and dashboards for enhanced accuracy and insight.
- Utilize LLM tools daily for various finance functions, such as drafting reconciliation commentary, interrogating Xero data, building reporting artifacts, and refining existing AI agents and prompts.
About You
- Possess a CA or CPA qualification with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, including prior roles as a Financial Controller or Finance Manager where you were responsible for the full close process.
- Experience in a services-oriented industry such as professional services, technology, or managed services, with exposure to both recurring contract revenue and project billing.
- Proficiency with Xero, including Xero Payroll.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising transactional teams, or the aptitude to effectively lead, review, and develop a team.
- Exhibit commercial curiosity, with a drive to understand the underlying financial drivers of the business and provide insightful analysis beyond basic reporting.
- Essential AI and LLM literacy, with a proven track record of using tools like Claude or ChatGPT for daily finance tasks, including report generation, data analysis, and automation.
- A systems thinker adept at documenting processes and implementing controls that ensure long-term sustainability.
- Ability to work in a direct and fast-paced environment, utilizing Slack for communication and adhering to clear escalation procedures.
What is on Offer
- A comprehensive remuneration package ranging from $170,000 to $200,000, including superannuation, commensurate with experience.
- Significant ownership and autonomy in managing the close process, controls, and the offshore team.
- A clear growth trajectory as the finance function expands, with opportunities for future team leadership.
- Exposure to a highly AI-integrated finance environment within the Australian cybersecurity sector.
- A hybrid working arrangement based in our Melbourne CBD office.
