About Perlego

Perlego’s goal is to make learning materials reachable for everyone. Many learners cannot easily pay for or access the books they need, so the company provides unlimited use of a library of 1.5 million ebooks from more than 9,000 leading publishers. Perlego works with 300+ universities, businesses, and training providers, and it continues to expand rapidly.

The business is in a strong growth phase, including 40% B2B growth in the previous year, and is now looking for an experienced commercial and financial operator to help scale the sales function globally.

Role overview

This position is suited to someone who is equally comfortable preparing accurate management accounts and working with datasets or revenue operations dashboards. It is a blended role, with around 60% focused on Finance and 40% split across RevOps and Data, offering breadth while still staying rooted in accounting.

You will join the Finance team and report to the Head of Finance. A Management Accountant will sit underneath this role and handle the day-to-day postings, payment runs, and ledger maintenance. Your main responsibility will be to deliver high-quality month-end reporting while also leading projects that improve finance operations, support RevOps, and partner with the Data team.

The role is not about starting from zero. A capable team is already in place, but you will be expected to assess current processes, challenge them where needed, and make them better. A strong analytical mindset and a practical approach to commercial decision-making are essential.

Perlego is looking for someone who can work through ambiguity, has a strong accounting base, enjoys using data to drive decisions, and can operate independently while maintaining high standards.

How the team works

The Finance team is made up of the Head of Finance, this role, and a Management Accountant who looks after BAU posting, payment runs, and ledger upkeep. You will bridge the gap between the Management Accountant’s outputs and the Head of Finance’s reporting requirements, ensuring quality and accuracy in the information that moves upward while also driving cross-functional projects across the wider business.

  • Collaboration with Finance leadership and the Management Accountant, plus close work with RevOps and Data stakeholders on shared projects.
  • Clear communication of financial results and data insights into simple, useful stories for senior leaders and department heads.
  • A strong expectation to spot and implement improvements, whether in the close process or in commercial reporting.

What you will be doing

Month-end close, accounting control, and reporting

  • Lead the month-end close process, making sure journals, reconciliations, and postings are completed accurately, with management accounts and variance commentary delivered on time.
  • Maintain strong ledger quality in Xero by checking coding, reviewing accounting treatment, and resolving issues promptly.
  • Handle important technical accounting areas such as accruals, prepayments, payroll journals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage accounts payable and payment workflows, including royalty schedules, so that everything runs smoothly and on time.
  • Support compliance and statutory obligations, including VAT returns, corporation tax inputs, R&D claims, share-based payment accounting, and intercompany balances.
  • Assist with year-end close and audit preparation alongside the Head of Finance and external auditors.

Financial planning and analysis

  • Contribute to budgeting and reforecasting by building the models, schedules, and supporting workings behind the plan.
  • Develop and maintain KPI and metrics reporting across both B2B and DTC revenue streams, keeping reporting consistent.
  • Support board and leadership reporting through clear analysis and well-written commentary.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities early so they can be addressed before becoming issues.

Projects across RevOps, Data, and process improvement

  • Work with RevOps to create and maintain dashboards and reports covering revenue performance, pipeline health, and commercial metrics.
  • Partner with the Data team to pull, clean, and analyse datasets, turning raw information into practical financial and commercial insight.
  • Support work on subscriber metrics, cohort analysis, and attribution modelling connected to the subscription business.
  • Lead or contribute to automation and process-improvement initiatives, including close workflows and data pipelines between Stripe, HubSpot, and Xero.
  • Act as a finance-savvy partner for non-finance teams who need quick, reliable data for decision-making.

What success looks like

Within 3 months, you are expected to own the month-end close, deliver accurate management accounts on time with minimal rework, understand Perlego’s financial operations and business drivers, establish a strong working rhythm with the Management Accountant, and identify at least one improvement opportunity in process or data flow.

Within 6 months, you should have materially improved the close process, reduced manual effort, strengthened output quality and timelines, contributed actively to forecasting and financial models, become a trusted contact for RevOps and Data, and delivered at least one end-to-end project that improves a financial process, reporting output, or commercial data flow.

Benefits

The salary for this position starts at £65,000 per year.

  • Flexible hybrid working, with office attendance expected twice per week.
  • Personal learning and development budget for online courses, subscriptions, or books not available through Perlego.
