Role Summary

The Database Administrator will be responsible for administering, maintaining, tuning, and securing organizational databases while supporting uptime, speed, and data accuracy. This position suits someone who enjoys working with data infrastructure, resolving technical issues, improving system performance, and supporting business-critical platforms.

Core Responsibilities

• Set up, configure, upgrade, and support database management systems.
• Track database performance, availability, and overall system health.
• Manage database instances across development, test, and production setups.
• Keep database operations reliable, scalable, and efficient.
• Carry out routine maintenance tasks, patching, and version upgrades.
• Study performance issues, locate bottlenecks, and improve response times.
• Tune queries, indexes, stored procedures, and database structures.
• Monitor resource usage and suggest capacity enhancements where needed.
• Apply performance optimization methods to strengthen responsiveness.
• Work with application teams on database-related optimization needs.
• Build and maintain backup and recovery processes.
• Support disaster recovery testing and business continuity planning.
• Handle replication, clustering, and other high-availability solutions.
• Help ensure recovery targets and data protection requirements are achieved.
• Assist with incident response and restoration efforts when necessary.
• Implement database security controls and access policies.
• Monitor database activity and review security-related incidents.
• Follow organizational policies and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Take part in vulnerability checks and remediation support.
• Maintain audit trails and governance controls for databases.
• Partner with developers, system administrators, infrastructure teams, and data engineers.
• Support deployments and database changes for applications.
• Document configurations, procedures, and operational standards.
• Contribute to migrations, modernization programs, and technical projects.
• Share guidance and best practices with internal stakeholders.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a similar discipline is required.
• Between 2 and 8 years of experience in database administration, database engineering, or a closely related role.
• Hands-on knowledge of relational database systems such as Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
• Strong SQL writing ability and database performance tuning skills.
• Understanding of backup, recovery, replication, and high-availability concepts.
• Exposure to cloud-based database platforms and services.
• Working knowledge of Linux and Windows server environments.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
• Good communication skills and the ability to document technical work clearly.
• Database certifications are considered an advantage.

Additional Information

This is a full-time position at junior to senior level. The work arrangement is hybrid and the location is Singapore.
