Role overview
The City of Conroe is hiring a Crime Analyst to support police operations through statistical study, research, and data interpretation. In this role, you will use specialized computer tools, secure databases, and public safety systems to review crime information, identify trends, connect suspects to incidents, and help forecast potential criminal activity. The position also supports live investigations, including Real Time Crime efforts, by supplying field officers and detectives with timely leads, locations, and actionable intelligence. Work will also include participation in the Drone First Responder program.
What you will do
- Study crime data to identify patterns, emerging trends, and suspect links.
- Gather, organize, evaluate, and share information from public safety and secure data sources.
- Support active cases by providing real-time intelligence to officers and detectives in the field.
- Prepare informational bulletins and updates for department personnel about possible crime patterns.
- Create charts, graphs, maps, and other visual materials that present crime statistics clearly.
- Review and improve crime analysis methods, procedures, and workflows.
- Design and deliver training sessions for police staff and the public.
- Carry out additional duties assigned by division leadership.
Qualifications and experience
A high school diploma is required. An associate degree, or two years of college-level coursework toward a degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a similar discipline is preferred. Prior experience in law enforcement or analytical work is also preferred. CLEA certification is a plus, though not mandatory. FAA Part 107 drone pilot approval is preferred and will become required after a reasonable training period.
Skills and knowledge
This role calls for strong analytical thinking, solid mathematical ability, and excellent verbal and written communication. You should be comfortable working with computer hardware and software, handling confidential information appropriately, and producing reports and visual crime products. Familiarity with research methods, statistical tools, GIS platforms such as ArcView/ArcGIS, report-writing systems like Crystal Reports, SSRS, and Power BI, as well as Windows, Microsoft Office, and SQL is expected or should be quickly developed. The position also requires the ability to work under pressure and within time-sensitive deadlines.

The work is largely sedentary and may occasionally require lifting or moving up to 10 pounds. Physical activities associated with the role include climbing, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
