Role overview

This full-time, on-site Concreter position is based in Townsville City, Queensland. The role covers the preparation and setting out of work areas, including formwork installation, reinforcement placement, and ensuring surfaces are ready for concrete placement. Day-to-day duties include placing, spreading, vibrating, screeding, and finishing concrete for slabs, footpaths, driveways, and other flatwork. You will also assist with concrete pump operations and ready-mix deliveries, support the use of heavy machinery where needed, complete basic carpentry tasks related to formwork, and carry out patching, cutting, and curing work to achieve a quality finish.

Key duties

• Prepare site areas and set out work correctly before pours begin.
• Install and remove formwork, and place reinforcement as required.
• Carry out concrete placing, spreading, vibrating, screeding, and finishing.
• Work on slabs, footpaths, driveways, and other horizontal concrete surfaces.
• Assist with concrete pumps and ready-mix deliveries during pours.
• Support the operation or supervised use of heavy equipment and site machinery.
• Perform basic carpentry tasks connected to timber or modular formwork.
• Complete patching, cutting, and curing activities to deliver a clean finish.
• Follow site safety procedures and use tools and equipment responsibly.
• Work closely with the crew and assist supervisors in meeting deadlines and quality expectations.

Requirements

• Practical background in concrete formwork, including setting out, building, and removing formwork systems.
• Hands-on experience with flatwork such as slabs, footpaths, driveways, and similar surfaces.
• Basic understanding of ready-mix concrete, including placement, compaction, and curing.
• Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and machinery when supervised.
• Basic carpentry knowledge relevant to concrete work, including timber and modular formwork adjustments.
• Good awareness of construction safety practices, including correct PPE use and safe work methods.
• Physical fitness and stamina to manage manual work outdoors in changing conditions.
• Dependable, punctual, and comfortable working as part of a diverse team.
• Prior concreting or general construction experience is preferred; trade qualifications or tickets are an added advantage.
• A valid driver’s license and reliable transport to Townsville City job sites are highly desirable.
