Role overview
Alcedo Care is hiring Care Assistants to support people in their own homes across Lancaster, Morecambe, and Heysham. This position is designed for someone who enjoys helping others, values independence, and wants to make a meaningful difference in the local community.
Pay and hours
The pay rate is £14.75 to £15.75 per hour, with pension and holiday pay. When holiday pay and pension are included, the equivalent hourly rate is £17.03 to £18.18. Typical working hours are expected to range from 20 to 40+ hours per week.
What the role involves
As a Care Assistant, you will provide hands-on support in clients’ homes. The work includes personal care, continence support, washing, dressing, medication support, meal preparation, and help with household tasks. You will also encourage independence and help create a positive, supportive experience for the people you care for.
Training and development
No prior experience is required, as full training is provided. Training is delivered after the successful completion of one week’s work, and the company’s in-house training team includes Registered Nurses. Career development is supported through the Rising Stars programme, which includes fully funded NVQs and mentoring.
Benefits
Benefits include enhanced bank holiday rates, paid training, mileage contribution for drivers, flexible working options, and access to an Employee Assistance Programme that offers 24/7 wellbeing support. A free DBS check is also provided, and immediate interviews are available to speed up the recruitment process.
Company background
Alcedo Care is a family-led organisation with more than 25 branches across the North-West, Lakes and Cumbria, Yorkshire, and Wales. The company delivers over a million care hours each year and has been recognised as a Top 20 Rated Home Care Group for the past six years. Its training provision has also received the Princess Royal Training Award.
Eligibility and requirements
This opportunity is open only to female applicants because of a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010. The role involves supporting female clients, including transport duties and work in situations that require careful attention to privacy, dignity, and safeguarding. Applicants must be at least 18 years old due to the personal care involved, unsupervised work with vulnerable people, and the need for flexible hours, including late evenings and weekends.
Applicants must also hold a full UK driving licence, be medically fit to drive, and be willing to complete the checks required under company policy. An Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references are required.
Application note
Anyone applying should complete the online application form in full so that the submission can be reviewed.
