This role involves contributing to the design and development of foundational services in S3, addressing large-scale, complex challenges while nurturing an innovative environment.

About AWS S3

AWS S3 operates as one of the world's largest distributed storage infrastructures, managing trillions of data objects and providing daily access at an immense scale. This role supports critical systems that process vast global event data and deliver comprehensive usage and storage insights to customers through reports, CloudWatch metrics, and CloudTrail events.

Key Duties

  • Oversee daily operations and development within the S3 Compute group.
  • Shape and execute the strategic vision and roadmap for the engineering team.
  • Maintain the team’s operational excellence and readiness.
  • Develop and challenge engineering team members to reach their highest potential.
  • Collaborate proactively with internal stakeholders and clients to align product development with customer needs.
  • Participate actively in an on-call rotation to ensure system reliability and prompt issue resolution.

Ownership is a core value here: if you build it, you own it. The service operates globally, 24/7 with stringent standards for test automation, validation, design scrutiny, and code quality, all aimed at delivering highly reliable customer experiences.

Qualifications Required

  • Demonstrated expertise across the full software/hardware/network lifecycle including coding, code reviews, version control, build and testing processes, certification, and live system management.
  • Proven track record managing engineering teams effectively.
  • Hands-on engineering experience with a deep understanding of software development.
  • Experience in designing and architecting systems with emphasis on scalability and reliability.
  • Collaborative experience working with product and program managers.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external partners.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate technical and product concepts to various audiences including users, teams, and senior leadership.
  • Experience in recruiting, mentoring, and coaching software engineers to enhance their capabilities and effectiveness.

Equal Opportunity & Inclusion

Amazon is dedicated to creating a diverse workplace and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. Hiring decisions are based solely on talent and performance. The company prioritizes privacy and data security for all applicants and provides accommodations throughout the recruitment process for candidates with disabilities.
