Job description

About Heidi

Heidi is revolutionizing healthcare by equipping clinicians with advanced AI Care Partners, already supporting over 2.5 million patient interactions weekly across more than 190 countries. Our mission is to double healthcare capacity worldwide and strengthen the vital human connection in medicine, alleviating administrative burdens that consume clinicians' time.

Role Overview

As a Senior Localisation Engineer, you will design and maintain the technical infrastructures that enable our products to be localized effectively across multiple languages and regions. This position collaborates closely with product managers, engineers, designers, and linguistic experts to make sure our software is fully internationalisation-ready and delivers superior localized experiences globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and enhance localisation platforms and workflows to facilitate global scalability of Heidi’s products.
  • Develop AI-supported translation pipelines combining automation with human review processes.
  • Implement reliable systems that ensure localized content is properly delivered on web and mobile platforms.
  • Develop tools to empower linguists and product teams in managing, reviewing, and improving translations.
  • Contribute to developer tools and open-source libraries to simplify localisation and internationalisation workflows.
  • Integrate localisation solutions (e.g., Crowdin, Smartling) into software development and release processes.
  • Work with structured content formats such as JSON, XML, and XLIFF, maintaining clean source control integration.
  • Collaborate extensively across engineering, product, design, and QA teams to guarantee high-quality multilingual experiences.
  • Diagnose and resolve localisation challenges across the entire technology stack, including UI/UX and pipeline issues.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 3 to 10 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms like AWS or GCP.
  • Strong proficiency in Python or Go for building tools and automation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, capable of debugging technical and linguistic complexities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to work across different functional teams.
  • Commitment to high product quality and delivering outstanding user experiences in multiple languages and regions.

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on with localisation platforms such as Crowdin or Smartling.
  • Knowledge of localisation and internationalisation best practices.
  • Interest or experience in NLP or language technology systems.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
  • Background in building internal tools or developer platforms.
  • Appreciation for cultural and linguistic diversity; multilingual skills are advantageous.

Work Culture and Values

  • Focus on long-term impact rather than short-term wins, tackling ambitious healthcare challenges head-on.
  • Proactiveness in problem solving and building solutions ahead of demand.
  • Evidence-based approach guided by patient needs rather than metrics alone.
  • Ownership of outcomes with an end-to-end problem-solving mindset.
  • Commitment to iterative improvement with precision and speed.
  • Empathy for clinicians' real-world workflows ensuring products are practical and human-centered.
