Regional Intelligence Analyst

Role Overview

WorkSafe New Zealand seeks to hire three Intelligence Analysts on 12-month fixed-term contracts to support regulatory intelligence efforts across regions including Hamilton, Napier, and Christchurch, though candidates from any WorkSafe location will be considered. The position focuses on providing actionable intelligence to aid frontline inspection teams in prioritizing and targeting their regulatory actions to enhance workplace health and safety outcomes.

Team Context

The Regulatory Intelligence team, part of the Enterprise Planning and Implementation group, plays a vital role in converting data and operational insights into intelligence products that support prioritized and evidence-based regulatory decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze quantitative and qualitative operational data to detect emerging risks and trends within assigned regions.
• Produce intelligence products that guide regulatory targeting and prioritization efforts.
• Distill complex information into concise, practical intelligence to support frontline operations.
• Establish and maintain robust relationships with inspectors and operational stakeholders to keep abreast of regulatory challenges.
• Provide timely intelligence assistance to regional regulatory activities and escalate significant issues for wider organizational consideration.
• Develop operational reports and dashboards that aid managerial decision-making.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience in analyzing diverse data types to extract meaningful insights.
• Strong critical thinking aptitude with capability to operate effectively despite incomplete or ambiguous information.
• Demonstrated skill in authoring clear, structured reports and intelligence documents.
• Experience balancing multiple priorities and managing diverse stakeholder demands.
• Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Background in intelligence, regulatory environments, or public sector roles preferred.
• Possession or progress towards qualifications in intelligence analysis or a related analytical discipline is an advantage.

Compensation and Benefits

The remuneration range for this role is NZD 83,137 to NZD 108,442 annually, exclusive of employer contributions to KiwiSaver and SSRSS, with the KiwiSaver employer contribution set to increase to 3.5% from April 1, 2026.

Additional Information

Inter-agency secondments are possible with managerial approval before application. Preference will be given to current WorkSafe employees affected by the organizational restructuring. Candidates must have the legal right to work and reside in New Zealand.
