Job description
Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator responsible for managing, monitoring, and optimizing enterprise database systems. This role ensures robust performance, availability, security, and reliability across all environments including production, staging, and development.
Core Duties
- Oversee installation and administration of SQL Server environments, including configurations, upgrades, patching, database provisioning, and consistent upkeep.
- Continuously monitor and fine-tune database performance by analyzing CPU, memory, disk I/O, wait statistics, blocking, deadlocks, execution plans, and prolonged queries with DMVs, Query Store, and Extended Events.
- Develop and manage backup and disaster recovery plans covering full, differential, and transaction log backups, retention policies, recovery models, point-in-time restores, and conduct restore drills.
- Administer storage by managing database files, filegroups, transaction logs, TempDB parameters, autogrowth settings, and plan capacity effectively.
- Carry out routine database maintenance including index rebuilds or reorganizations, updating statistics, and executing DBCC integrity checks.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues such as connection problems, performance bottlenecks, blocking and deadlock scenarios, failed SQL Agent jobs, and storage or corruption challenges.
- Assist in database migrations, environment refreshes, and application deployments with comprehensive validation and rollback procedures.
- Collaborate closely with infrastructure teams, software developers, and architects to ensure database architecture aligns with business needs and scalability demands.
- Document procedures thoroughly by preparing runbooks, standard operating procedures, disaster recovery plans, maintenance timelines, and root cause analyses.
Candidate Profile
- Experience: 3 to 8 years in Microsoft SQL Server database administration with emphasis on production support.
- Technical Proficiency: MS SQL Server versions 2016, 2019, and 2022; expert in T-SQL, Query Store, DMVs, Extended Events; expertise in backup and restore processes; experience with High Availability configurations such as AlwaysOn, Failover Clustering, and Log Shipping.
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or related fields; MCA or B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent technical discipline also preferred.
- Certifications: Relevant SQL Server certifications are advantageous, particularly Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate.
