About the Role
Insight Global seeks an Estimator to join a prominent Canadian employee-owned general contractor at their Ottawa or Toronto office. This position is critical for a major nuclear construction project near Chalk River, Ontario, focused on building a state-of-the-art nuclear research facility involved in advanced materials research, isotope production for cancer treatments, fuel examination, and next-gen reactor technology development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead estimating activities during preconstruction and construction phases ensuring accuracy as IFC drawings are issued.
- Develop effective pricing strategies and assess construction execution options.
- Prepare detailed labor and man-hour estimates and manage pricing of change orders.
- Coordinate collaborative estimating with multiple project partners in an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) setting.
- Provide leadership and maintain quality control across estimate development, ensuring alignment with stakeholders, trade partners, and construction teams.
- Regularly collaborate with project teams and travel approximately one to two days monthly to the Chalk River site.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- At least 5 years of estimating experience.
- Experienced with projects valued around $200 million or of comparable scale and intricacy.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and recognized estimating software.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project locations regularly.
- Eligibility to obtain Reliability Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience estimating for nuclear facilities, laboratories, research centers, reactor facilities, refurbishment, or nuclear waste management projects.
- Familiarity with IPD, Alliance, Progressive Design-Build, or Construction Management project delivery models.
- Experience supporting active construction phases and performing estimate validations against IFC drawings.
- Holding an existing Reliability Security Clearance.
- Established connections with Ontario subcontractors and suppliers.
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related fields.
- Industry certifications such as Gold Seal, PQS, P.Eng., CET, or equivalent.
- Experience in regulated sectors including nuclear, pharmaceutical, life sciences, energy, or research.
- Background in employee-owned or entrepreneurial construction firms.
