Role Overview
The Work Capacity Specialist is charged with evaluating and managing workers’ compensation claims by determining their work capacity and entitlement to weekly benefits. This role ensures these decisions comply with relevant legislation (Workers Compensation Act 1987 & 1998 Act), are evidence-based using both medical and vocational information, and uphold fairness and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate work capacity determinations impacting weekly compensation in line with legislation.
- Analyze and interpret comprehensive medical and vocational documentation.
- Evaluate worker capacity, suitable job options, and earning potential.
- Apply procedural fairness and maintain transparent communication.
- Conduct periodic reviews and reassessments of work capacity decisions.
- Oversee internal reviews and manage escalation of disputes.
- Ensure governance standards are met and maintain audit and regulatory compliance.
- Support organizational goals through standardized, efficient work capacity assessments.
- Translate strategic plans into actionable claims and capacity processes; monitor progress to ensure timely outcomes.
- Continuously improve processes to enhance compliance, decision quality, and claims performance.
- Contribute to streamlining assessments to reduce delays and boost decision reliability and efficiency.
- Collaborate on continuous improvement strategies and frameworks with technical and improvement teams.
- Provide coaching and guidance to peers and stakeholders to elevate decision-making competencies and support development plans.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Preferably holds a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, nursing, or related discipline.
- In-depth knowledge of Workers Compensation legislation, regulations, and guidelines.
- Familiarity with governing standards of practice and agent remuneration determinants.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Strong organizational and self-management capabilities.
- Experience with continuous improvement and adaptability to change.
- Consultation, negotiation, and influence skills adept at stakeholder engagement.
- Innovative thinker capable of lateral problem solving.
- Proficient analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Relationship-building and a strong customer service orientation.
