Job description

Overview

The WHS Officer will collaborate closely with site operations teams at a Fulfillment Center to enforce company safety policies and ensure adherence to relevant local and regional safety regulations. Utilizing lean methodologies and kaizen continuous improvement techniques, this role aims to minimize ergonomic and conditional risks, fostering a safe and healthy workplace for all Associates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide and ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon Safety Policies.
  • Evaluate site safety performance, identify deficiencies, and develop corrective action plans.
  • Deliver timely, quality safety projects to operational teams.
  • Analyze weekly and monthly safety metrics and incident trends to prioritize resource allocation toward high-risk areas.
  • Conduct regular site safety audits to detect non-compliant equipment or processes; implement solutions to mitigate risks and prevent injuries.
  • Audit recordkeeping and entries in the Global Safety Database to maintain regulatory and global safety compliance.
  • Review workplace organization and Associate behaviors to verify accuracy and consistency in training, auditing, and scoring methodologies.
  • Supervise and mentor assigned Safety Associates within the Fulfillment Center.
  • Engage regularly with Safety teams, Associates, and leadership to gather input on safety improvements and communicate status and resolutions transparently.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • At least one year of experience in Environment, Health & Safety or Industrial Safety Engineering.
  • Background in industry, consulting, government, or academic research.
  • Experience applying lean principles and process improvements in operational settings.
  • Availability to work a variable schedule due to 7-day operations, within a 5-day workweek framework.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to safety management in distribution centers or manufacturing environments with both exempt and non-exempt employees, especially sites with 200+ personnel.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent advanced education.
  • Experience in dynamic, fast-growing organizations.
  • Government Certified Safety Professional credential is advantageous.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with confidence engaging senior site leaders.
  • Capability to establish and execute departmental objectives and strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability to fast-paced environments with evolving priorities and strategies.
