Job description

Position Overview

The Welcome Center Clerk is responsible for managing trailer and container check-ins and check-outs, handling shipping and receiving paperwork, and controlling yard access. This role supports efficient yard activities, maintains accurate records, enforces safety and security protocols, and delivers excellent customer service.

Work Schedule

The position operates Monday to Friday on the second shift (afternoon/evening).

Key Duties

  • Conduct inspections of inbound and outbound trailers and containers for compliance and proper documentation.
  • Track all personnel entering and leaving the yard accurately.
  • Manage document control for Bills of Lading and inspection sheets related to trailers and containers.
  • Engage respectfully and professionally with drivers.
  • Utilize the Warehouse Management System (WMS) to check trailers and containers in and out.
  • Coordinate daily workflow with clerical and operational teams to ensure smooth processes.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to inbound calls from internal and external customers.
  • Oversee access control systems and keep detailed driver logs.
  • Perform yard audits to verify the physical status matches system data.
  • Manage a large volume of emails efficiently, especially when starting shifts.
  • Implement and uphold site safety procedures including PPE compliance, pedestrian rules, and speed limits.
  • Report any safety or security issues immediately to management.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent is mandatory.
  • One to two years of relevant experience in logistics, shipping/receiving, or yard operations is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Excellent focus on details and organizational capabilities.
  • Customer service oriented with a professional attitude.
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team and across departments.
  • Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) is advantageous.

Additional Requirements

  • For candidates residing in Quebec, functional proficiency in both written and spoken French is required.
  • Must comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write, interpret information, and perform basic arithmetic operations.
  • Use of hands for handling objects and regular physical activity including sitting, walking, or standing during shifts.
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform essential functions.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks requiring a full range of motion and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Compensation

The pay rate ranges from CAD 17.95 to CAD 30.19, depending on various factors such as local market conditions, candidates’ qualifications, skills, training, and experience.
