Job description
Overview
The Vision Measuring Machine (VMM) Application Engineer is responsible for developing, programming, and enhancing non-contact optical inspection systems used for precise dimensional analysis. This role involves interpreting component blueprints with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), demonstrating machinery capabilities to customers, and providing comprehensive technical assistance. The engineer will often conduct installation, calibration, and troubleshooting of VMM systems.
Qualifications and Skills
- Educational qualification of Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME) or Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical or Automobile disciplines.
- Approximately 4 years of professional experience working in Quality Control or standard room operations within automotive or Special Purpose Machine (SPM) manufacturing sectors.
- Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD drafting and a solid understanding of GD&T principles.
- Hands-on experience with Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, or VMM-specific software like QMS3D and MetroSoft.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills essential for engaging with clients effectively.
- Self-driven with keen attention to precision and the capability to lead a small team consisting of three or more members.
Responsibilities
- Program and operate Vision Measuring Machines to assess two-dimensional and three-dimensional component dimensions.
- Develop measurement routines and procedures for new parts utilizing engineering drawings and adhering to GD&T standards.
- Execute inspections including incoming, in-process, and final audits to ensure part quality.
- Support customers through installation guidance, product demonstrations, and training sessions.
- Conduct routine calibration and upkeep of VMM and associated inspection and test equipment.
- Generate detailed inspection documentation and maintain comprehensive quality records.
