Job description

About Boost

Boost is a Wellington-based software development company with 24 years of experience delivering impactful digital solutions tailored to public sector organisations and their users. We focus on creating positive and lasting changes through custom digital products, driven by strong values and a commitment to being one of the best workplaces in New Zealand.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced UX/UI Designer who is passionate about problem-solving and driven to work collaboratively within a high-performing team. If you thrive in an Agile environment and enjoy tackling challenging design problems, we encourage you to join our upcoming hiring event.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design bespoke digital user experiences, including user research, wireframing, and creating high-fidelity user interfaces and prototypes.
  • Engage in user research and usability testing to inform design decisions and discovery activities.
  • Participate in Agile workflows by producing early deliverables, testing frequently, and iterating designs.
  • Create and maintain design systems and component libraries that ensure consistency and accessibility across applications.
  • Collaborate closely with development teams to ensure accurate implementation and smooth translation of designs into functional software.
  • Champion accessibility and usability best practices across all digital solutions.
  • Leverage AI design tools to enhance productivity, automate workflows, and improve design processes.
  • Demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness in solving design challenges.
  • Work as part of a small, dedicated, high-performing Agile team alongside Product Owners and developers.
  • Continuously learn and share knowledge to enhance the design team's capabilities.
  • Build strong relationships with team members and clients, contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Uphold and reflect Boost's core organisational values in all work.

Candidate Profile

  • At least two years of professional experience designing user-centered digital products with a demonstrated portfolio showing UX and UI skills and methods.
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma.
  • A degree in visual design or a postgraduate qualification in UX design.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered design tools.
  • A proactive, curious mindset with a strong desire for ongoing learning.
  • Enjoys collaborating within a driven team environment and building professional relationships.
  • Comfortable working in an iterative, Agile setting and adapting to change and ambiguity.
  • Ability to self-direct work and openly share knowledge.

Culture and Work Environment

  • Join a team dedicated to making a meaningful, positive impact through technology.
  • Engage in continuous professional growth and learning opportunities.
  • Experience a supportive work-life balance culture.
  • Contribute ideas freely in a workplace encouraging experimentation.
  • Celebrate team successes collaboratively.
  • Work in a WorldBlu-certified democratic organisation with no top-down management, fostering leadership at every level.
  • Be part of a courageous, responsible team prioritizing service over status.

Additional Information

  • This is a full-time position based onsite at our Wellington office; remote applications will not be considered.
  • Applicants must hold New Zealand residency or a valid New Zealand work visa.
  • Salary range is indicative from $60,000 to $110,000 annually, dependent on experience and skills.
  • To apply, please submit your CV, portfolio or examples of previous work demonstrating your design and process skills, and a cover letter explaining your interest in joining Boost.
  • Our upcoming hiring event, "Test-drive Boost," is scheduled for 16th September; candidates will experience collaborative problem-solving with the team during this session.
