About the Role

USIC is expanding its team across the North Shore and Northwest Suburbs, seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Utility Locator. This full-time, onsite opportunity offers competitive hourly pay from $21 to $33 depending on experience. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and accurately identify and mark the locations of underground utilities including telecommunications, electric, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer lines.
  • Conduct thorough searches in assigned areas and document each locate with detailed notes and photographs.

Work Schedule and Conditions

These daytime roles require a readiness to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts, including holidays, to meet a typical 48-hour locate turnaround timeline. Fieldwork involves physical activity like walking, bending, lifting up to 75 pounds, and working under various weather conditions.

Candidate Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in different weather conditions, with previous outdoor experience advantageous.
  • Comfort and proficiency with technology.
  • Availability for overtime, weekend, and on-call shifts.
  • Pass a drug screening test due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
  • Physical ability to maneuver in confined spaces, walk considerable distances, bend frequently, and lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to distinguish colors used for wiring and marking underground utilities.
  • Capability to read and interpret locate tickets, maps, and blueprints.
  • Clear communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues, clients, contractors, and homeowners.
