Utility Locator

Position Overview

USIC is seeking dedicated individuals passionate about outdoor work and safety to join our team as Utility Locators in Olde West Chester, OH. This role involves the critical task of locating underground utilities to ensure safety and prevent infrastructure damage. No prior experience is necessary as comprehensive training is provided, though experienced applicants are welcomed.

Job Responsibilities

• Safely and accurately identify and mark underground utilities including telecommunications, electricity, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer installations within designated areas.
• Perform thorough searches for subsurface utilities, complete required documentation, and capture photographic evidence of each locate.
• Work independently in the field using company-provided vehicles equipped with advanced technology and systems for ticket and claims management.
• Adhere to a 48-hour turnaround deadline on many locates, requiring working post-holidays, some weekends, overtime, and on-call shifts as needed.

Work Environment and Schedule

This role is primarily daytime and full-time but demands flexibility to accommodate overtime, weekend, and on-call hours including nights and holidays, in line with business requirements. Fieldwork involves exposure to various weather conditions and physical activities such as walking, bending, lifting up to 75 lbs, and confined space navigation.

Eligibility Requirements

• Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Capable of passing a drug screening as this is a safety-sensitive role.
• Proficient with technology and able to read and interpret locate tickets, maps, and prints.
• Ability to differentiate colors used in utility identification.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
• Physical capability to perform tasks involving walking, bending, lifting up to 75 pounds, and working in confined spaces.
• Willingness to work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
• Availability for overtime, weekend, and on-call shifts as required.
