Overview
USIC, a nationally recognized leader in underground utility damage prevention and infrastructure services, is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Utility Locator in St Paul, MN. This full-time onsite role offers a rewarding opportunity for those passionate about fieldwork and public safety, whether you have previous locating experience or are new to the field.
Compensation
The starting pay ranges from $21.50 per hour for newcomers to $29.50 per hour for experienced locators.
Job Responsibilities
- Safely and accurately locate underground utilities such as telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer networks.
- Conduct thorough searches within assigned areas to detect underground services, marking their placement precisely, completing detailed documentation, and taking photographs of each located utility.
Work Schedule and Environment
This position involves predominantly daytime hours with a requirement to meet a 48-hour turnaround on many locate requests. This demands availability to work post-holiday, some weekends, overtime, and on-call shifts, including nights and weekends, according to business needs. Fieldwork will be performed independently using company-provided vehicles and advanced technology.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions; outdoor experience is advantageous.
- Proficiency with technological tools and systems.
- Availability for overtime, weekend, and on-call duty as required.
- Successful completion of a drug screening as this is a safety-sensitive role.
- Possession of a valid driver's license coupled with a safe driving history.
- Physical capability to work in confined spaces; to walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Color vision sufficient to recognize wire identification colors used in utility marking.
- Reading comprehension skills to interpret locate tickets, maps, and blueprints.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with teammates, clients, contractors, and homeowners.
