Job description
Overview
We seek a skilled US Mortgage Underwriter to assess and approve residential mortgage loan applications, including Conventional, Non-QM, DSCR, Bank Statement, and P&L loan programs. This position is based in Kochi, Kerala and requires immediate availability or those currently serving notice. The role involves a US rotational night shift schedule with a hybrid work mode: initial 6 months onsite and subsequent remote work.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite various mortgage loan types such as Conventional, Non-QM, DSCR, Bank Statement, and P&L loans.
- Perform thorough income, asset, credit, employment, and collateral analysis of borrowers.
- Evaluate alternative documentation loans including 1099, ITIN, Asset Depletion, and P&L-only applications.
- Ensure all underwriting adheres to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, investor, company, and regulatory standards.
- Issue loan decisions including approvals, denials, conditions, and suspensions based on underwriting criteria.
- Review and clear outstanding underwriting conditions and documentation submissions.
- Collaborate effectively with loan officers, processors, brokers, and internal departments.
- Maintain precise underwriting documentation to support quality control and audit procedures.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in mortgage products, investor requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
- Handle multiple loan files efficiently while meeting accuracy and turnaround time requirements.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- 2 to 5 years of experience in US mortgage underwriting.
- Comprehensive understanding of Conventional, Non-QM, and DSCR loan underwriting.
- Experienced in income analysis, risk evaluation, and mortgage compliance standards.
- Familiarity with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting guidelines.
- Proficient with automated underwriting systems such as DU/LP.
- Skilled in using Loan Origination Systems like Encompass or CalyxPath.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication capabilities.
- Ability to manage a high volume workflow and meet strict deadlines.
Work Arrangements
- First six months working onsite at the Kochi office.
- Remote work option available after six months.
- Scheduled US rotational night shifts.
