This role supports the Transforming Boroondara Program by ensuring efficient handling of various waste streams including hard waste, recyclables, and organic matter at the Transfer Station.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate public-facing services during afternoons, guiding residents on proper disposal of materials such as organic waste, mattresses, tyres, steel, and bricks.
  • Manage traffic flow and provide clear instructions to ensure safe and efficient waste deposit.
  • Load waste onto trailers for transportation to landfill sites, sorting centers, and mulching facilities.
  • Perform diverse tasks across control room operations, plant operations, yard maintenance and cleaning, emergency responses after hours, and vehicle upkeep as part of a trained team.

Candidate Profile

  • A strong team player with a committed work ethic is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to contribute effectively within a small cohesive group.
  • Proactive in applying occupational health and safety practices to maintain a hazard-free environment for colleagues and the public.
  • Possession of current licenses to operate a Backhoe, Forklift, and Front-end Loader; recent license holders are encouraged to apply.

Additional Employment Information

  • Work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, totaling 42.5 hours per week from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm including a 30-minute break.
  • Overtime applies only beyond the standard weekly hours; specific provisions govern pay for public holidays worked or observed (Good Friday, Christmas Day, New Year's Day unworked holidays paid at regular rates).
  • Special conditions apply for make-up days on Saturdays and the AFL Grand Final Parade Day, with overtime remunerated accordingly.
  • The annual salary is $88,850.32 plus superannuation and includes remuneration for worked public holidays.
