Position Overview

The Traffic Control Flagger is tasked with safely directing vehicle movement in and around construction sites, road maintenance zones, and various work areas. The role involves properly deploying and retrieving traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and barricades to safeguard both the workforce and the public. Communication with motorists is conducted via hand signals, signage, and other approved traffic control methods to ensure safe navigation through or around the designated zones.

Key Responsibilities

• Install and dismantle traffic control devices including signs and cones to reroute traffic safely around work locations.
• Use stop/slow paddles to efficiently manage vehicular flow.
• Maintain consistent communication with team members through two-way radios.
• Stand, walk, and reach for extended durations, sometimes up to 10 hours daily.
• Lift and move objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
• Operate company vehicles for transporting equipment to job locations and perform routine vehicle inspections to ensure operational safety.
• Work in outdoor environments exposed to varying weather conditions, moving machinery, traffic, fumes, and airborne particulates, often in moderate to loud noise environments.
• Adhere strictly to all company policies and procedures and perform assigned duties as required.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Possess a valid Driver’s License.
• Clear background check including verification of motor vehicle records.
• Pass drug screening and comply with federal Department of Transportation regulations.
• Wear mandatory safety gear including safety-toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses, and high-visibility vest.
• Proficient in using two-way radios for team communication.
• Capable of working under diverse weather conditions and various traffic environments.
• Provide excellent communication with contractors and internal personnel, ensuring top-tier customer service.
• Function effectively as part of a team.
• Maintain excellent attendance, have reliable personal transportation, and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
• Complete ATSSA Flagger certification and company-arranged Defensive Driving training.
• Willingness to travel across the state, including overnight stays, and work flexible hours such as nights and weekends when necessary.
• Availability for rotating on-call assignments.
