Role Summary
In the role of a Spotter at our Windsor Mold Tooling facility, your primary function is to evaluate contact surfaces between moving and stationary mold sections. The use of colorants is essential to determine which surfaces are in contact and which are not.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up tooling for spotting mechanisms and parting lines accordingly.
- Heat molds using thermolators and regulate temperature while conducting tasks such as opening vents, preparing pockets, and finishing parting lines.
- Apply knowledge of various plastic materials and their effect on the spotting process; manage fitting and timing of parting lines and pressure locks.
- Inspect steel mold components for defects, surface flaws, or dimensional deviations, recognizing quality concerns and initiating corrective actions to uphold product standards.
- Strictly follow all safety guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and teammates.
- Maintain detailed records of production data, quality inspections, and any process issues to facilitate performance tracking and continuous improvement.
Candidate Requirements
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED).
- A minimum of three years' experience in spotting, preferably with expertise in multi-shot rotational tool spotting.
- Familiarity with vertical milling operations such as fly cutting and drilling, two-shot compression molding, and icing line sealing for lighting tools; mold making, welding skills, and understanding of tool construction are advantageous.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to detect and evaluate defects or irregularities in mold steel that may affect final molded products.
- Manual dexterity to handle delicate parts and perform tasks such as grinding and fitting.
- A strong dedication to workplace safety and adherence to established safety procedures.
