Thermal Engineer

Overview

Vertiv seeks a Thermal Engineer for its Letterkenny, Ireland location to join a rapidly expanding team. This role involves designing mechanical systems within modular infrastructure projects primarily serving the data centre and telecommunications sectors. The position encompasses the entire project lifecycle from concept and design through to manufacturing, integration, commissioning, and handover.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop construction and detailed design documentation for modular systems.
• Create manufacturing and technical documents for production.
• Provide engineering support during assembly and integration at the Letterkenny facility.
• Assist service teams and subcontractors during project rollout.
• Engage in constructability reviews and offer technical design feedback.
• Coordinate with project management, quality, manufacturing, testing, and construction teams to deliver projects on schedule and to quality standards.
• Manage construction deliverables such as as-built documentation, installation guides, and factory acceptance testing including flushing and pressure testing.
• Support punch list resolution and project close-out activities.
• Work collaboratively with local service teams to enhance project execution.
• Specify materials and services necessary for successful project delivery.
• Liaise with suppliers and service providers throughout project phases.
• Support site construction, commissioning, and handover engineering activities.
• Handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high quality and timely delivery.

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields such as Process & Energy Engineering, Thermotechnics, or Modelling & Simulation.
• At least 1 year experience in a similar mechanical engineering role.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD for design work.
• Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• English language skills at B2 level or higher.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Effective communicator with strong teamwork aptitude.
• Highly detail-oriented with a proactive mindset towards engineering challenges.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Experience using Revit and Autodesk design software.
• Background in data centres, telecom, HVAC, building services, or modular construction environments.
• Knowledge of mechanical building systems including cooling, plumbing, and fire suppression technologies.
• Familiarity with factory integration, site commissioning, or construction support tasks.
