Test Lead – Data Migration

Role Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Test Lead with expertise in data migration to oversee and drive testing efforts for critical enterprise data migration and transformation initiatives. This role demands crafting comprehensive testing approaches, orchestrating complete migration testing cycles, verifying data accuracy and integrity, and affirming that the migrated data fulfills both business and technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all facets of testing for data migration projects including planning, execution, validation, and thorough reporting.
• Create detailed test strategies, plans, scenarios, and test cases specifically tailored to data migration.
• Define the scope of testing, set timelines, estimate resources, identify dependencies, and establish entry and exit criteria.
• Ensure complete validation of data covering accuracy, consistency, integrity, and correct application of transformation rules between source and target platforms.
• Direct source-to-target data reconciliation efforts and troubleshoot discrepancies, mapping challenges, and defects in transformation.
• Coordinate testing phases such as System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), regression tests, and migration rehearsals.
• Collaborate with technical and data-focused teams to verify ETL/ELT workflows, data pipelines, and transformation logic.
• Manage the defect lifecycle including detection, prioritization, resolution, and retesting processes.
• Develop and maintain test progress dashboards, metrics, reports, and quality status communications for project stakeholders.
• Facilitate testing coordination among business users, technical divisions, vendors, and external providers.
• Support activities like mock migrations, cutover planning, production migration verification, and post-migration reviews.
• Identify and mitigate risks, manage dependencies, and resolve issues related to testing.
• Maintain adherence to project governance, quality standards, and delivery schedules for testing.
• Regularly update project and program participants with testing progress and insights.

Required Skills and Experience

• Over seven years of experience in software testing with strong expertise in data migration testing environments.
• Proven record managing testing teams or activities on sizable data migration, transformation, or integration projects.
• In-depth understanding of the complete data migration life cycle including source-to-target mapping, profiling, reconciliation, and validation.
• Practical proficiency in SQL for thorough data validation, comparison, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience testing ETL/ELT and data integration processes and rules.
• Broad knowledge of testing approaches including SIT, UAT, regression, integration, and full lifecycle testing.
• Experience handling defect tracking using systems like Jira or Azure DevOps.
• Capability to devise robust test strategies, estimates, plans, execution documentation, and quality metrics.
• Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and managing testing risks and scheduling challenges.
• Strong analytical mind with a meticulous focus on data quality and detail.
• Excellent communication skills and proficiency in stakeholder engagement.
