Job description
Position Overview
The Renfrew County District School Board seeks a Temporary Custodian to join the team at Eganville & District Public School in Eganville, Ontario. The role involves regular custodial tasks including cleaning, maintenance of facilities and equipment, and grounds upkeep, under the guidance of the head custodian or area supervisor. The position runs immediately upon hiring until November 1, 2027, with possible adjustments depending on the return of the incumbent.
Work Schedule and Term
- Work 7 hours daily, totaling 35 hours per week, from 3:00 pm to 10:30 pm.
- Schedules may be modified during school breaks.
- Employment duration is until November 1, 2027, with a possibility of being shortened or extended.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning of rooms, washrooms, and fixtures including mopping, scrubbing, washing floors, and garbage disposal.
- Vacuum and shampoo carpets; clean windows, blackboards, ledges, railings, and furniture.
- Conduct thorough floor maintenance such as stripping, resealing, and refinishing.
- Operate custodial machinery and identify simple equipment issues.
- Carry out heavy duties like unloading supplies; repair lockers, doors, and furniture.
- Replace fuses and bulbs, reset circuit breakers, and unclog drains.
- Maintain grounds by removing snow, cutting grass, and performing other landscaping tasks using manual and mechanized tools.
- Open and close the building; monitor building systems; respond promptly to emergency calls.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act, policies, and regulations to safeguard building occupants.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (Grade 12).
- At least one year of experience in custodial work demonstrating reliability and responsibility.
- Competency in cleaning procedures and maintenance tasks outlined above.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills to follow oral and written instructions effectively.
- Good judgment, trustworthiness, and ethical standards required.
- Basic working knowledge of computer software including email, Excel, or Word is advantageous.
- Understanding of WHMIS regulations.
