Job description

Overview

The role focuses on maintaining the stability and security of the organization's IT infrastructure, emphasizing the development, upkeep, support, and optimization of critical areas such as passive infrastructure, network systems, and data communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement structured cabling solutions tailored for data center environments.
  • Develop and review overhead and underground/floor cable pathways ensuring efficiency and adherence to design.
  • Establish and uphold cabling standards aligned with industry norms like TIA/EIA and ISO/IEC.
  • Collaborate with project teams including managers and engineers for successful cabling project execution.
  • Create comprehensive project plans covering timelines, resource management, and risk evaluations.
  • Guarantee cabling work—including racks, pathways, and terminations—is executed per design and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex cabling challenges such as signal degradation and connectivity issues.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of cable routes, termination points, and testing outcomes.
  • Generate detailed reports on project progress, performance metrics, and installation or maintenance challenges.
  • Ensure all cabling operations comply with data center safety and security standards.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to pertinent codes and industry specifications.
  • Evaluate existing cabling infrastructure to plan for future expansions and technology upgrades.
  • Support cross-departmental initiatives to improve overall data center reliability and performance.
  • Serve as the primary escalation contact for complex cabling issues beyond lower-level support capabilities.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior team members on best practices in passive cabling techniques.

Required Skills and Expertise

  • Practical experience with LAN cabling and associated standards.
  • Knowledge of data center cabling environments.
  • Fundamental understanding of networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with ticketing tools to manage and track work.
  • Product knowledge involving fiber optic and copper cabling solutions.
  • Understanding of SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) technology.
  • Experience with WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) and DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technologies.
  • Hands-on proficiency with termination of jack panels, patch panels, I/O points, RJ-45 connectors, Krone modules, and field termination kits.
  • Operational experience with testing instruments such as JDSU ANT-5 SDH Tester, Ethernet tester, OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), optical laser source, optical power meter, multimeter, Sunrise, and PC-based E1 tester.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
