About the Role

We are seeking a Technology & Privacy Lawyer to become part of our esteemed national Intellectual Property & Technology team based in Melbourne. This position involves engagement with both local and global markets, providing an opportunity to handle intricate and stimulating technology projects within a supportive and collaborative team.

In this capacity, you will assist clients with technology procurement and digital transformation initiatives; provide counsel on data protection, commercialization, and governance matters, including those related to AI and emerging technologies; and offer strategic guidance on privacy and cybersecurity issues encompassing compliance with the SOCI Act, the Consumer Data Right, and the Spam Act. The team works closely with various firm divisions such as M&A and financial services, granting exposure to prominent transactions across the technology sector and beyond.

You will collaborate closely with Partner Toby Patten, who specializes in advising innovative mid-market to large multinational clients, especially within healthcare and life sciences. Toby has a notable record leading critical negotiations during the COVID-19 pandemic involving clinical research firms, government bodies, universities, and global biopharma companies around manufacturing, commercialization, licensing, and supply agreements for COVID-19 and mRNA vaccines.
