Position Summary

The Technician 1 - Coreshed will provide essential technical assistance in managing and processing drilling samples at the Geita Gold Mine, ensuring adherence to quality standards and compliance. The role involves planning work schedules for team members to maintain procedural consistency and operational excellence within the geology exploration department.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute core marking and geotechnical logging of drill cores before sampling for laboratory submission.
• Offer technical support to field mapping and drilling crews as needed.
• Ensure all drillhole data is accurately recorded and securely maintained in geological databases and systems.
• Confirm proper documentation and storage of drill samples received at the Coreshed.
• Organize daily and routine work plans for subordinates, ensuring adherence to prescribed procedures and standards without sacrificing quality.
• Implement safety standards by facilitating toolbox meetings and enforcing work procedures compliant with health and safety regulations.
• Lead teams in identifying workplace hazards and establishing adequate control measures.
• Promptly report any injuries, illnesses, incidents, or suspected unfit-for-work conditions within the team.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderly management of the Coreshed area including correct sample storage and handling.
• Reconcile core sample quality including marking accuracy and recovery authenticity.
• Provide coaching and hands-on training to junior team members to build capability and ensure high-quality output.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum secondary education or diploma in Mineral Exploration from an accredited institution.
• Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens.
• Holding a Tanzanian driving license is considered an advantage.
• Diploma holders should have at least 2 years of experience in core marking and geotechnical logging or field mapping involving diamond and RC drilling.
• Secondary education holders require a minimum of 3 years of similar experience.

Required Skills and Knowledge

• Proficient in MS Excel and MS Word for reporting and data management.
• Strong comprehension and implementation of departmental and site-wide health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
• Ability to lead small teams effectively in a technical work environment.
