Technical Product Manager - API Governance and Developer Experience

Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Product Manager to lead our API Consultancy & Standards function within the Developer Experience team at a prominent fintech company. This role centers on overseeing API governance, standards, and lifecycle management, ensuring our APIs deliver top-tier security, scalability, usability, and performance. The role demands a combination of strong product management skills with innovative approaches, including harnessing AI tools and automation to enhance the developer experience, tighten governance, and speed up product delivery processes.

This position requires close collaboration with engineering, product, technology, and business units to align strategies, meet market demands, and create scalable solutions across diverse regions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Define, drive, and execute the product vision and roadmap focusing on API governance and lifecycle management.
• Create detailed product requirements, user stories, and prioritize tasks while working jointly with engineering teams to implement the roadmap.
• Develop and maintain tools, frameworks, and processes that simplify API design, reinforce governance, ensure compliance, and boost API performance.
• Establish and uphold API standards, governance frameworks, and lifecycle procedures.
• Incorporate AI-driven techniques and automation to optimize governance, enhance productivity, and improve the developer experience.
• Work cohesively with internal technology, product, engineering, and business teams to ensure APIs fulfill real-world customer and business needs.
• Oversee critical moments throughout the API lifecycle, including internal appraisals, onboarding, launches, adoption, monetization, upkeep, and retirement.
• Maintain high-quality API documentation that promotes a developer-centric approach.
• Spot opportunities to advance API usability, consistency, discoverability, and adoption rates.
• Translate intricate technical requirements into clear product strategies, measurable business goals, and actionable plans.
• Engage effectively with stakeholders in a global and matrixed organization structure.
• Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging API standards, fintech advancements, and novel technologies to drive continual enhancement.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Product Management, or a related field.
• Have at least 5 years of relevant experience in Product Management, Product Development, API Product, or Technology Product roles.
• Demonstrated expertise in the payments sector, ideally within payments technology, fintech, financial services, or banking environments.
• Comprehensive knowledge of APIs, API governance, standards, and lifecycle management.
• Experienced in managing technology products, platforms, developer tools, or API ecosystems.
• Able to distill complex technical concepts into pragmatic business outcomes, strategy, and prioritized actions.
• Adept at collaborating with engineering and technology teams within agile development settings.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and decisiveness.
• Familiarity with API governance, developer experience enhancements, and API documentation is highly advantageous.
• Interest and practical insight into AI, automation, and emerging tech applications in product development.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills.
• Comfortable navigating complex cross-functional, matrixed organizational environments.
• Customer-focused, passionate about innovating and continuously improving developer experiences.

Eligibility & Application Details

• Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in a similar product management or technology product role.
• Must have a background in the payments industry, working in fintech, financial services, or banking sectors.
• Applicants should be currently residing in the Republic of Ireland.
• No relocation support is offered for this position.
• Eligible candidates are EEA nationals with the legal right to work in Ireland.
• Non-EEA candidates need to hold valid Stamp 4 permission allowing work in Ireland.
