Role Overview

The Incentive Platform Department (INPD) spearheads Rakuten's loyalty and coupon product strategies by driving product development and successful platform implementation. The Loyalty Platform Section manages the Rakuten Point and Coupon Platform, Japan's leading loyalty program that handles immense real-time traffic daily. This role involves creating scalable and robust backend services for the Rakuten Coupon platform to contribute directly to Rakuten's growth and enhanced user experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and operate scalable backend services supporting the Rakuten Coupon platform.
• Convert product requirements into efficient and elegant technical solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers to help nurture their skills and growth potential.
• Demonstrate leadership motivation by working collaboratively across various company departments.
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality, dependable services to maximize client satisfaction.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field, or comparable work experience.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience with Java programming and MySQL database management.
• Proficient understanding of service-oriented architecture principles and capable of explaining architectural trade-offs.
• Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems.
• Experience with development and maintenance of large-scale B2C applications.
• Hands-on experience designing APIs, including RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with frameworks such as Spring.
• Practical skills in containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Ability to work effectively within globally distributed Agile teams.
