Technical Director

Overview

Fenris Creations is looking for a Technical Director to oversee the technical vision and development of their shared game development platform, CARBON. This platform includes engine runtime, rendering, graphics, tools, pipelines, and developer experience components. The role involves ensuring CARBON evolves as a modern, high-impact platform providing significant value to various game teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and direct the technical strategy for CARBON, covering runtime, graphics, rendering, tools, pipelines, and shared developer technologies.
• Collaborate closely with the Senior Development Director of Core Technology to convert product vision into actionable technical tactics.
• Lead and mentor technical leaders managing Graphics, Runtime, and Tools teams to enhance quality, alignment, and professional growth.
• Offer architectural insight to ensure CARBON is performant, scalable, maintainable, and provides an excellent developer experience.
• Promote the integration of AI-assisted development techniques that meaningfully accelerate iteration and engineering effectiveness.
• Drive the open-source approach for CARBON to boost platform impact, accessibility, and sustainability in the long term.
• Effectively communicate technical strategies, trade-offs, risks, and opportunities within the organization.

Candidate Profile

• Extensive experience in senior technical leadership roles within game development.
• Strong expertise in game engine architecture, including runtime systems, rendering or graphics, and developer tools.
• Demonstrated success in defining technical visions and aligning multiple teams towards unified engineering goals.
• Proven leadership managing senior engineers, technical leads, or engineering managers.
• A solid belief in the strategic and practical benefits of AI-enhanced and open-source development methodologies.
• A pragmatic and growth-focused leadership style emphasizing learning, experimentation, and problem-solving within practical constraints.
• Hands-on engineering proficiency with the ability to lead by example through architectural decisions and code reviews.
• Exceptional communication skills to clearly explain complex technical matters to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders.
