About the Role
Fenris Creations invites applications for the position of Technical Director based in Reykjavík, Iceland. You will spearhead the technical roadmap of Core Technology and the CARBON game development platform, which encompasses engine runtime, rendering, graphics, tools, pipelines, and developer workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and lead the technical direction for CARBON, covering runtime systems, graphics, rendering, tooling, pipelines, and shared developer technologies.
- Work in close partnership with the Senior Development Director of Core Technology to translate organizational goals and product vision into actionable technical strategies and plans.
- Supervise and mentor technical leads across Graphics, Runtime, and Tools, ensuring team cohesion, quality, and growth.
- Offer architectural leadership to guarantee reliable performance, scalability, maintainability, and optimal developer experiences throughout the platform.
- Champion the practical adoption of AI-assisted development techniques to boost productivity, iteration speed, and engineering outcomes.
- Drive CARBON's orientation towards open source, maximizing platform leverage, accessibility, and its strategic advantages for the future.
- Effectively communicate technical strategies, trade-offs, risks, and prospects within the organization.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive senior technical leadership experience in game development environments.
- In-depth expertise with game engine subsystems including runtime, rendering or graphics technologies, and developer tooling.
- Proven track record of setting and aligning multi-team technical visions.
- Experience leading senior engineers, technical leads, or engineering management personnel.
- Strong conviction and practical knowledge advocating AI-assisted development and open-source methodologies.
- A pragmatic and growth-focused leadership approach, embracing learning, experimentation, and real-world problem-solving.
- Technical proficiency sufficient to lead with authority through architectural decision-making, code reviews, and technical mentorship.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
