Role Description
We are seeking a full-time Technical Designer based at our Auckland, New Zealand location. This role involves close cooperation with design, art, and engineering departments to convert creative concepts into workable and effective in-game systems and features. The daily work includes preparing and updating design documents, generating and refining technical specifications, and ensuring that systems, tools, and workflows align with both creative ambitions and production requirements. Responsibilities also encompass prototyping game mechanics, addressing implementation challenges, and improving pipelines for optimal performance and user-friendliness. The role demands frequent communication across teams to balance design goals, technical limits, and project schedules.
Qualifications and Skills
- Expertise in Technical Design with the capacity to transform creative ideas into straightforward, actionable systems and tools.
- Skills in Garment Construction, fitting, and pattern making related to creating and enhancing wearable assets or character customization systems.
- Architectural proficiency particularly in organizing systems, tools, and workflows for scalable, efficient game production.
- Experience working within multi-disciplinary game development or interactive media teams.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail in documenting and implementing complex features.
- Familiarity with design and production software, including game engines and team collaboration tools.
- Excellent written and oral communication abilities, capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Relevant tertiary education or equivalent professional experience in game design, technical design, interactive media, or a similar discipline.
