Tech Lead – Subscriptions Platform

We are seeking a Tech Lead to guide both strategy and execution for our Subscriptions platform. This position sits at the crossroads of hands-on engineering and leadership, demanding deep technical expertise alongside operational management capabilities. A crucial responsibility includes delivering precise project timelines, owning delivery SLAs, and ensuring top-quality results from the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the backend engineering team focused on subscription services.
• Make architectural decisions and oversee technical planning and project timelines.
• Accurately estimate delivery dates, track progress, and maintain SLA adherence.
• Develop and maintain backend services using PHP and Go.
• Refactor and modernize legacy PHP systems to improve code quality and performance.
• Enhance scalability, reliability, and operational stability of subscription platforms.
• Collaborate closely with Product, QA, and DevOps teams to facilitate smooth product releases and stable production environments.
• Champion best practices in engineering, including code quality and documentation standards.

Candidate Requirements

• At least 6 years of backend development experience using PHP and/or Go.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing engineering teams, delivering projects on time, and maintaining SLA responsibilities.
• Hands-on experience modernizing legacy PHP applications and migrating systems.
• Proficiency in RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and database tuning.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker), orchestration tools (Kubernetes), continuous integration/delivery pipelines, and monitoring/observability technologies.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Redis, Kafka, or RabbitMQ message brokers.
• Experience developing monetization, payment processing, or recurring billing solutions.
• Background in gaming, fintech, or other environments with high traffic volumes.

Compensation

The salary range for this position in Montreal, Canada is $120,000 to $145,000 annually, contingent on factors including location and applicant experience.
