Job description

Overview

The Team Leader role focuses on providing frontline leadership and oversight to Support Workers assigned to multiple homes, aiming to ensure superior quality of support, clear communications, and compliance with organizational protocols. This role is essential in cultivating a supportive and respectful workplace while prioritizing the safety, well-being, and inclusion of service Members.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise Support Workers, ensuring adherence to company policies, safety guidelines, and work procedures.
  • Encourage a cooperative team atmosphere that promotes mutual respect and positive interaction.
  • Facilitate open dialogue within the team, handling issues directly or with coordinator support.
  • Organize and lead team meetings, properly documenting and sharing meeting minutes.
  • Oversee onboarding of new staff, including arranging orientation shadow shifts.
  • Serve as the primary contact for employees, including during emergencies or after hours.
  • Collaborate on staff performance reviews, including probationary and annual assessments.

Scheduling and Administrative Duties

  • Create and maintain staff schedules, submitting them weekly as required.
  • Ensure all shifts are staffed; when all options are exhausted, be prepared to cover shifts personally.
  • Monitor communication and documentation quality to maintain professionalism and accuracy.
  • Track household and member-related expenses to ensure compliance with budgets.
  • Coordinate with Occupational Health & Safety committees and aid in incident investigations.

Member Care and Support

  • Supervise and assist in the execution of Members' care plans.
  • Engage with Members in their homes and communities, advocating on their behalf.
  • Accompany Members to medical appointments and manage follow-up documentation.
  • Communicate updates with family members as needed.
  • Support cleanliness and healthy living conditions for Members.
  • Manage ordering of medications and supplies, delegating as appropriate.
  • Experience supporting individuals with complex behavioural challenges is advantageous.

Work Environment and Conditions

  • Locations include Members’ homes in Lower Sackville and designated office sites.
  • Work primarily indoors with occasional outdoor duties depending on weather and schedule.
  • Attendance at social events, mandatory trainings, and meetings is required.
  • Travel between offices in Bedford, Bridgewater, and Kentville may be necessary.
  • Transportation duties for Members and staff may occur.
  • Potential exposure to challenging behaviours requiring de-escalation skills.
  • Physical demands include lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Regular use of cell phones and computers is part of daily tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Between 1 to 3 years’ experience in a similar leadership capacity.
  • Proven ability to supervise and manage staff effectively.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, interpersonal, and presentation capabilities.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Certification in First Aid CPR-C is mandatory.
  • Valid Driver's License and vehicle access with $2 million third-party liability insurance considered an asset.
  • Flexibility to work days, evenings, overnight shifts, and weekends.
  • Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the past 6 months is required.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge or certification in 7 Core Competencies or equivalent.
  • Attributes such as creativity, compassion, and empathy are highly valued.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.

Compensation

Pay ranges from $19.30 to $26.76 per hour.
