About the Role
We are looking for a skilled professional to join Mercer’s New Zealand Fund Services team, based in either Wellington or Auckland. This hybrid role offers flexibility with remote working options balanced by office collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the NZ Tax Manager in managing tax compliance for Mercer Funds in New Zealand, covering income tax and PIE tax obligations.
- Work closely with external tax consultants, registry, and custodians to guarantee accurate tax reporting and regulatory adherence.
- Conduct reviews of annual income tax provisions, trust distribution calculations, tax statements, and unit pricing tax accruals to ensure compliance with company policies.
- Ensure fund operations comply with all relevant tax policies, procedural requirements, and risk management standards.
- Participate in tax-related projects including new business proposals, restructuring of funds, and product development initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- A tertiary qualification in business, accounting, tax, law, commerce, or related fields is required. Candidates pursuing Chartered Accountant certification are welcome but it is not essential.
- At least 2 to 3 years of post-qualification experience in tax roles, with preference for candidates familiar with financial services sector.
- Strong technical expertise in New Zealand tax regulations, especially those pertaining to unit trusts and PIE tax treatment.
- Excellent analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and keen attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal and communication capabilities to interact with various stakeholders.
Preferred Attributes
- Previous experience within financial services or fund management environments is advantageous.
- Demonstrated success in fostering and maintaining collaborative relationships across multiple teams.
- Understanding of tax compliance methodologies within fund accounting frameworks.
- Proactive involvement in tax policy evaluation and contribution to business development projects.
