Job description

About the Role

This position is responsible for supporting and advancing multiple high-speed automated production lines, focusing on PLC-controlled devices, vision technology, revision management systems, and safeguarding manufacturing data integrity and security. The role demands technical expertise to maintain and enhance automation infrastructure while ensuring minimal downtime.

Work Shifts

Technicians will work across all shifts following a 12-hour, 3-day/4-day schedule without rotation. The shifts are:

  • Shift 1: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and every alternate Sunday from 8 AM to 8 PM
  • Shift 2: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and every alternate Saturday from 8 PM to 8 AM, eligible for a 15% night shift allowance
  • Shift 3: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and every alternate Sunday from 8 AM to 8 PM
  • Shift 4: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and every alternate Saturday from 8 PM to 8 AM, eligible for a 15% night shift allowance

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and optimize existing automation systems to reduce downtime and maximize productivity.
  • Coordinate with IT, application teams, and external technical partners to support all automation-related hardware and software platforms.
  • Act as the highest-level technical support resource (third tier) for resolving complex technical challenges.
  • Implement industry best practices to enhance operational productivity, quality standards, and efficiency.
  • Oversee installation and deployment of hardware, software, and peripherals, collaborating with vendors and purchasing departments as necessary.
  • Guide the development of new infrastructure projects in alignment with engineering management.
  • Benchmark system performance and provide detailed regular reports.
  • Interface with corporate IT teams to ensure compliance with standards and coordinate infrastructure improvements.
  • Manage system backups, recovery processes, and ensure connectivity across servers, shared software, and applications.
  • Provide documentation of support processes and procedures compliant with ISO standards.
  • Contribute innovative ideas for new production line technologies, including control systems, robotics, vision systems, and communication protocols.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree or diploma (Level 7/8) in a relevant field or an equivalent blend of education and experience.
  • 2 to 4 years of practical experience in medical device manufacturing or a related supplier environment.
  • Proficiency with PLC programming, in-line vision and barcode recognition systems, network topologies, PC software applications, and remote I/O systems.
  • Understanding of electrical systems, Variable Frequency Drive technology, and experience programming Allen-Bradley Controllogix5000 and PLC5 controllers using Visual Basic applications.
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP networking and Wide Area Networks architecture.
  • Experience in equipment and software validation, as well as Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT).
  • Strong hands-on technical problem-solving capabilities along with resourcefulness.
  • Good interpersonal skills and capacity to operate effectively within a team.
  • Knowledge of robotics, vision system diagnostics, and debugging techniques.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills essential.
